He suggested we walk the neighborhood until we got to the entrance of the first hole. Our home backs up to the 13th green. What I recognized immediately once we arrived is that the view from a golfer's perspective differs dramatically from that of a homeowner looking at the course through windows from inside his home.
If memory serves me correctly, par for the first hole is five. From the vantage point of the tee box, it becomes evident that course will be filled with zigzags. Okay, my interpretation of a zigzag relates to sharp turns going different directions. In fact, the letter "Z" is a prime example of a zigzag.
Surprisingly, when I looked up the "zigzag" expression a minute ago, reference was made to rolling a joint of marijuana. Zig-Zag is a brand name for the rolling paper that is used.
I am not just blowing smoke here. I heard term zigzag long before I heard of marijuana, so I'm sticking with my definition. I also suspect that a joint of marijuana would be contraindicated for excelling at the game of golf.
As we walked the course, the golfer I was walking with provided some explanation of the difficulty associated with reaching the cup way down the fairway.
Actually, walking the pathway along the course was relaxing. It was nice to be outdoors. The view was picturesque. In addition, there is therapeutic value in walking. The breeze was brisk enough to be appreciated on a hot day.
There is also therapeutic value in talking with another person. I suspect that folk who seemingly are always stressed would be well served to walk while talking with a friend.
Self-care doesn't have to include a gym membership. Walking is good exercise, and if the walk can include another person, all the better. Like I said, a golfer’s view of the golf course differs dramatically from that of a person looking through a window.
For that matter, a tourist’s view of a place often considers the sights, sounds and opportunities that are often overlooked by folks who look and see “same ole/same ole”. In order to live life to the fullest, it must be experienced.
All My Best!
