We had the good fortune to spend three days at a newly constructed AirBNB about four houses from the beach. To say that the place stands out is an understatement. Seriously, how do you camouflage a purple house? Throw in a yellow front door, and it is not difficult to ascertain that the owner must have an affinity for LSU. The Wifi network is Geauxn Coastal.
The ambiance of the place was a very welcomed surprise. It is very nicely furnished, has space to sleep fourteen people, and is filled with all the comforts of home. I was pretty impressed with the artwork even though a G Harvey print would seem out of place. Artwork is not in short supply in this home and most of it is prints on canvas.
Okay, so truth be told, we haven't actually spent any time on the Texas coast. We don't fish. We don't boat. We don't do much outside the norm. For all of the time that we've been at the beach, we haven't actually been on the beach.
Surside beach is located about two and a half hours away from our son's home in Cat Spring. Consequently, we opted to watch our youngest grandson play football in Sealy on Tuesday night. To complete the bookend of the trip, we will return to Cat Spring to watch our oldest grandson play football in Sealy tonight.
I spent all of yesterday chained to my computer generating a report for work. One of the nice things about my job is that I can do it from anywhere. On Wednesday I sat outside on the balcony for a portion of the day with my computer balanced on my lap. Like I said, I can work for anywhere.
So it is Friday morning. We are four houses away from the beach and we haven't actually yet been to the beach. When we arrived on Wednesday, it was in the aftermath of a very heavy rain storm. We would have had to wade through water to get to the beach. The roadway in front of the AirBNB reminded me of Lake Pontchartrain. I guess that was in keeping with the Geauxn Coastal theme.
Yesterday wasn't a day for being outdoors because of the wind. I actually feared that Snickers might get blown away when I periodically ushered him outside for a bathroom break. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind my hair blowing in the wind, but is just wasn't the kind of day to walk on the beach.
This morning, I'm hoping to experience Surfside Beach. I like walking on the beach and I'm determined to make it happen this trip. Otherwise, I can't really say that I've been to Surfside Beach.
I will say that if you want a change of pace, the purple beach house with the yellow door and assortment of different colored metal bar stools around the kitchen island is a welcoming place to hang out. Even though weather conditions haven't been conducive to outside play, we've had a great time.
All My Best!
