I have mistakenly shared that when we moved 21 months ago, we put everything into storage. It is true that with the exception of two grandfather clocks, a large bookcase and a wooden chest of drawers, we put all of our furniture into storage.
So why do I find it overwhelming to walk through the home we are vacating and still see boxes that need to be moved? It is one of those things you have to experience to fully understand.
Honestly, we are making progress, but it has become obvious to me that moving is for the young. When we purchased our first home in Austin in the mid-1970s, we moved into a three-bedroom home and had everything moved in, and the pictures hung on the walls before we called it a day.
It has now been a full week since the movers left. I'm beginning to wonder if we will ever get all the boxes out of the garage and unpacked? Hanging pictures will be like icing on a cake. It represents the best part. I’m not sure it is going to happen this week.
Last night, I opted to turn my interest from inside the house to the front porch. I needed to wave a magic wand and create a place to escape. I still have a lot to do, but at least we now have a place to sit.
Fortunately, our front porch is fairly spacious. It also has no east and west sun exposure. It is a place of shade and a comfortable place to just sit and enjoy being outside.
Even though the front of the house does not have a view of the golf course, it does represent an open invitation to neighbors walking by to stop and say hello.
Last night afforded the opportunity to visit with a neighbor from two doors down. When we bought our land, there was only one house on the block. A lot has changed in 21 months. There are now five homes with a golf course view and six homes across the street. The street has now become home to a host of folks.
Before bedtime last night, the General and I enjoyed sitting on the porch and just talking. The weather was perfect, and there was not a mosquito anywhere in sight. I suspect we will enjoy shared time on the front porch immensely.
All my BEST!
