I’m generally pretty sweet to most folks and an occasional canine or two. That obviously wasn’t the case yesterday. The General and I had been focused in the 12th hour stretch of completing the bibliography for my book. From my limited perception, I was critically aware of the “ticking of the clock” shall we say and I simply apologized and said, “Please don’t be offended. Make yourselves at home, but I’ve got to get back to the project I’m working on.” There was no curt response on their part. My daughter simply said, “That’s not a problem. We will go ahead and take the dogs.”
I felt awful, but the damage was done. They left without the visit and the General and I got back to the task at hand. Did I mention we were still working on the task at hand at 12:30 a.m. this morning. By then, I was feeling a little less guilty that I excused myself from an opportunity to visit with my daughter much earlier in the day. Our home looks like we’ve been involved in a book explosion. Both the General and I frantically turned page after page looking for “treasured phrases” that I thought were important enough to write down at one time. Next time, I’ll write down where I found the treasured pages before I stop writing.
There are a couple of really good quotes that you won’t find in my book. Consequently, I will go ahead and share them with you now.
· John Ortberg asks the question, “What must it be like for God when he wants to be with people and they’re not wanting to be with him?” If you want to make the question even more personal, you could ask, “What must it be like for God when he wants to be with me and I don’t show up?”
· Max Lucado makes the observation, “Most of us have an idealized picture of what the perfect holiday is supposed to look like. We forget Jesus did not come to a perfect world filled with perfect people. That world would not have needed him. He came for a broken world filled with broken people.”
In the event you know exactly where these quotes can be found in the author’s writings, I’d appreciate the information. Both quotes resonate with my spirit, but they will not appear in my book because after turning the house upside down, flipping hundreds of pages through books, being less than hospitable to my daughter and her husband and making Google searches until my fingers are numb, I opted to remove the information.
Hopefully by the end of the day, the book related clutter and pages and pages of manuscripts will be filed safely away for future retrieval.
I’m off today on a new adventure.
All My Best!
